As part of their culminating World War II social studies projects, Mrs. Johnson’s sixth grade class brought in pictures and reports of relatives who had first-hand accounts of World War II. Student, Colton Deane, brought his parents, Edward and Renee Deane, who shared with all the sixth grade social studies classes their family involvement from both sides of the World War II conflict. They shared their German heritage and presented artifacts from the war including actual pictures of the Hitler Youth. Colton’s grandfather was a German officer during the war. After the presentation, students asked questions and were able to see an actual German helmet, part of the Berlin Wall, letters sent home from his German uncle fighting in the war, German currency, and more family photos.
